We are 89 days from hiking now – yikes – time to kick it in gear. Last night was our annual 90 Days Out Party/Meeting, thank you Sal and Jena for hosting a great evening.
A recap on the Veteran Hiker tips for Newbies:
Don’t over think and over pack your food. You will eat far less than you imagine, and food choices are largely mental down there. Take comfort food. Take what you will eat. You won’t starve in 12 hours, and as you get hot and tired you won’t be hungry.
Ken’s magic headlamp = Princeton Tec Apex Pro 200 Lumen Headlamp.  You know your headlamp rocks when people talk about it year after year.
Stop whenever you feel a “hot spot” on your feet and deal with it ASAP – we seem to do most of the damage to our feet on the way down. If you wait for a convenient time to stop and apply glide or moleskin to your feet, you have already wrecked your feet and grown blisters that might prevent you from hiking on the second day of the trip.
Never leave a hiker alone (whether this is letting someone fall behind, or letting someone “go ahead”, out of sight means that someone can quickly be in danger).
